Gray/Grey Hair love..."Self-Love." Be yourself. Be different. Be extraordinary!

"TheGreyNation.com was birthed out of frustration. As an actress/model, I got tired of being told, "No," because I had grey hair. I got tired of carrying wigs and covering up what is a huge part of me, my grey hair."

The Birth;

"I decided to not wait for "Hollywood" to see that grey hair is a natural part of life and that an actress with grey hair could work. Nevertheless, after much rejection, I set out to make my own "Hollywood," the GreyNation.com! A place where anyone rocking grey hair is a STAR!"

"Grey hair is more than hair losing its color, it is ART. It is the next level of sexy. It is a state of mind and being. It should be appreciated and celebrated. Grey hair is an unique accessory. It's your, "bling bling." Grey hair is wisdom, let it tell your story unapologetically! Rock it!"

The day I said, "No more!" - Ali Sudani Pretlow

"Long story short, I became very allergic to dye. As a teen I began to see a few grey hairs. It was at that moment I started to color on a regular basis. I was hooked on the color, jet black. I found myself looking for products that would last longer and not wash out after a few washes. I was fortunate to have a grandmother who knew a great deal about coloring hair, so I gave her a go at it! She hooked me up! But...it did not last long.

About a few weeks later a new product came out made from Hemp. I heard about it through a friend who was a barber, so I trusted him. Unfortunately, the moment I put it in my hair, my eyes instantly puffed up and swelling in my face. Needless to say, The night ended with me in the emergency room!

That was the "wake-up" call for me! It was then I said, "No more!"

  • "My grey hair story is unique. I have been a DJ for many decades and played in bars, night clubs, weddings, and concerts all over. As I got older, I started to dye my hair because I was Dj-ing for mostly younger crowds and felt strange being around young people in their 20s n 30s, partying all night. But when I stopped coloring my hair to hide the grey, I just went completely grey! I'm shocked at the responses I get, it's actually my trademark look. It's a great marketing tool. Without a doubt, woman of all ages love the look. So guess what... "NO MORE coloring it! LOL." I'm grey and unique even though I'm 52, I still party hard!" - Charles K. Jr.

"I started my gray hair journey at the onset of Covid just before my 63rd birthday. I’ve been gray for years but always covered it with black weaves. Once I took that leap and had my stylist cut off about eight inches of black, the compliments have been non-stop." - Darlene

"I had no choice but to let my natural hair color show through because no dye could keep it covered so it is a good thing and I really appreciate it. It is what makes me unique and now its time to share with others. God always told me my time was not to be early in life, however, now is my time to shine." - Dr. Marilyn Johonson

  • "Omg, I love everything about Grey Nation! I have been wearing my hair grey for nearly twenty- one years. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After my treatment of radiation and chemotherapy I lost my hair. Not having one grey hair before my cancer, then finishing my treatment my hair began to grow back and when it grew back, it grew back GREY! I embraced the new growth and the new color. I continue to this very day to embrace and love my grey hair!! I was bless to have survived!"

I also wanted to embrace my grey and show other women that grey hair is not a death sentence and that you can embrace your grey hair, your age and still be fabulous and grey."

Also, I wanted to stand in my own power, as a woman and embrace the new season. We fly till we die, is my attitude. It's inside out fly!"

  • " I decided to go GREY because after admiring all the beautiful Kings and Queens with grey hair, I knew it was something I could rock as well. Once I began to embrace the beauty of my grey hair, I realized it had nothing to do with aging me.  I feel more confident with my grey hair than I have in a long time and I'm told all the time how it suits me. I love my grey hair."

  • "I found my first grey hair at age 16. I began dyeing it out of shame in my twenties. In my thirties I had to touch up my roots every 2-3 weeks because my dyed hair was so dark and the white was such a stark contrast. I simply became exhausted by the upkeep and became curious when I saw a group of ladies on Instagram embracing their grey and looking stunning. It took a full year of watching them before I got the courage to try. September of 2018, at age 36, was my last root dye. I decided I needed to find out what I had been hiding. 2.5 years later I am just about fully transitioned. What has been interesting is that this journey is so much more than “just hair.” It’s about unlearning what society has taught us about aging, beauty, womanhood. It’s about growing more confident in who you are. And the community of silver women and men I’ve connected with along the way have been the most loving, supportive, diverse, fierce, beautiful community I’ve been blessed to be a part of."

  • "I began dyeing my hair in my mid-thirties, and had to go lighter and blonder as the gray hairs appeared fast and furious. I was weary from dying every 2 weeks, and felt like I looked “dusty” and old in the mirror whenever the white halo framed my face. I said things like, "I’ll stop dyeing when I turn 50...maybe 55, okay…60." My oldest son had been encouraging me to embrace the gray and bring out my inner “Storm” for almost 5 years until I finally took the leap. I have never looked back except to wave goodbye to the dye! I love the acceptance and inner strength I have gained along the way along with the wonderful members of the beautiful silver community."

  • "I'm Francesca and I'm from England. I use Instagram to document my journey to growing out my hair colour under the name of go.grey_73. Last year when the UK first went into lockdown I found lots of pages of women ditching the dye on Instagram, they looked so lovely with their grey hair that I decided after 32 years or so of colouring my hair to stop. So March last year was the last time I put a colour on my hair. Going grey has been one of the best decisions I've made, my confidence is growing and I'm finding a new me. The silver sisters with their support, encouragement and inspiration have played a big part in my journey."

  • " My name is Melissa Joiner and I have been rockin my silver grey hair since 2008! Long before wearing your natural grey hair was a statement I ditched the semi-permanent bottle. I recall the day I said no more covering the grey (from my mid- thirties) - ha! I was 43. I started greying with two silver streaks on either side of my hair and at the hairline. I was fighting a battle to cover the grey I would never win. Ditching the bottle was so freeing- don't get me wrong I had trepidation. What would people say? Would people think I am old or would I lose my sass and style. Looking back on my silver journey I recall it did not take me long to get over it and go with it. I loved cute earrings and always kept a cute hairstyle such as a bob or wore a long ponytail. I owned my grey - every strand and when someone asked I proudly said I ditched the bottle and it was the best thing I could do for myself. I wanted anyone who asked or commented to know when the time comes to own their grey and hopefully make their journey easier and know they are not the first and won't be the last! It is so exciting over these last few years to see women and men rocking their grey and owning every single grey strand! I am in awe of everyone who has been or is currently on this journey. When we show our appreciation for our grey hair we are setting the standard and expectation for those emerging onto their own grey hair journey. I am the owner of MelJoi Lifestyle, a company founded on June 2, 2021 with a mission to bring content, resources and products to women for planning, implementing self-care and embracing their well-being. We also seek to disrupt the narrative on aging and allow women to embrace and thrive as they are without the burden of believing aging is negative."

hair tips & advice

What shampoo should I use?

Choose a shampoo that is mild. Try not to use shampoos that will dry the hair. A shampoo that has conditioner in it works well on normal to dry hair.

Is heat bad for grey hair?

When blow drying, use a diffuser and not directly on the hair as you are drying it. If you flat iron afterwards, be sure to not overheat. Keep the iron setting on 365 degrees or less to prevent burning, causing the grey to be dull or yellow.

What is the best product for beards?

Go for organic treatments like olive oil, vitamin E and coconut oil.
